LAKES PATRIOTIC ZONE

The annual meeting of the Lakes Patriotic Zone was held in the County chambers on Friday last. Air D. H. Cockburn was in the chair and there were present Messrs H. Douglas, R. J. Fuller, W. B. Gibb, E. Sharpe, L. Lee, J. W, Reed, M. T. Robertson, E. R. Hopwood, K. Davie, Morris. Apologies were tendered on behalf of Dr Anderson, Messrs J. S. Royds, W. Scaife,and J. Hunt.

The chairman, in outlining the business of the meeting offered his congratulations to the Zone and its committees and collectors for the fine achievement in the 1944 appeal. The Zone was the first in the area to reach its quota and Arrowtown committee was first in the zone to raise the sum allotted to it.

The appoinment of a chairman resulted in the re-election of Mr D. H. Cockburn. The treasurer (Mr Hopwood' presented a statement of the amounts raised by the respective committees last yera. Including a credit balance of £361 carried over from the previous year, the total amount raised was £2635/14/7, to which is added a credit of £282/3/7 from the National Patriotic Board, making in all the sum of £2917/18/2. The 1944 quota was £2034, leaving a credit balance of £BB3. The 1945 appeal, which is based on last year's figures is as follows, the 1944 appeal being shown in parenthesis; Garston £B6 (£141), Wanaka (Vincent £l6l, Lake £366), £323 (£527), Queenstown £257 (£420), Glenorchy £l3B (£225), Arrowtown £206 (£337), Kingston £l4, (£23), total £1024. The 1945 quota includes the allocation from Vincent zone.

The meeting adopted the quotas as set out by the treasurer.

The chairman said he hoped that although the quotas were lower than last year, the committees tvould exert every effort to make the 1945 appeal as successful as last years.

Mr Douglas also briefly returned thanks. Although he was leaving Arrowtown for the country, he would retain his interest in patriotic affairs and rehabilitation. He would retain many happy memories of the years he had spent in Arrowtown.
