OBSTETRIC HOSPITAL FOR QUEENSTOWN AND LAKE COUNTY

To the Editor

Sir. —You published recently the decision of the Southland Hospital Board

not to purchase “ Strathcona, ’ ’ the well-equipped and splendidly managed obstetric hospital which has given ex :

cellent service t.o this district over a number of years. So far, there has been no mention of an alternate plan to provide for the needs of the district, although in three weeks’ time “Strathcona” is to be closed. Is there no way in which the ratepayers of Queenstown and the Lane County can bring their needs before the Board? Surely, this is a matter of the utmost importance which requires the concerted ('(Fort of the women’s organisations attached to the Church, the local branches of the Blanket Society, the ♦Red Cross, and the Women’s Division of the Farmers’ Union, so that some constructive demands might be placed before the Board. I am, etc.,

The Stork

[Wo referred this letter to Dr Anderson and he says that he has appealed to the Director-General of Health and the Southland Hospital Board to expedite the provision of a maternity service for the whole district. —Ed., L.W.M.]
