SOLDIERS ENTERTAINED

«©»- AT LOWER SHOTOVER Though the weather was forbidding there was a fair attendance at the dance in the Lower Shotover hall on Thursday last for the welcome accorded district soldiers. The soldiers concerned were Cpf H. Grant and Pte. J. Grant and A. Burrows. The Grant brothers were released from the Pacific for essential industry and Pte. Burrows had been in the Middle East. Mr J. Bagrie, chairman of the Soldiers' Committee, expressed the pleasure of the settlers in seeing the soldiers back safe and sound after having taken their part in the respective theatres of war and he expressed a warm welcome to them. Dr Anderson and Rev. P. Anderson expressed similar sentiments on behalf of the Queenstown people and church adherents respectively. Mr J. 8. Brown extended a welcome on behalf . of the Country Football Club. Mr Bagrie stated that all the boys would be presented with commemorative certificates. Musical honours were given. The music of the Cromwell orchestra and an excellent supper provided the necessary elements for an enjoyable evening.
