SUNDAY SCHOOLS PICNIC

A combined Sunday school picnic was hold on the Arrowtown recreation ground on Saturday iast. The weather was fine and warm. The children, their parents and friends began assembling at 11 a.m., bringing with them a generous supply of cakes, sandwiches and soft drinks etc. After luncheon there was a brief interval for games, and about 1.30 the sports programme began. This occupied the greater part of the afternoon. Some competitors showed an athletic form above the average; but there auust have been few, if any, children who did not receive some prize during the afternoon. There were frequent intervals when the ice-cream churn became the centre of much-appreciated refreshment; there was an abundant supply of fruit cordial available for the thirsty; and the last event of the day was a riotous scramble for boiled lollies in the

middle of the field. The surplus of cakes was sold, the proceeds being set aside for the patriotic appeal. The Arrowtown people are to be congratulated upon their generous contributions which made possible this happy social function; and particular praise is due to the ladies who organised it and who so capably managed the refreshments.
