AIR FORCE QUEEN

VISIT TO ARROWTOWN

The Air Force Queen (Miss Mary Pratt) and her party visited Arrowtown on Saturday, when they were entertained at afternoon tea by members of the Arrowtown branch of the W.DPU. in the Atheneum Hall, which had been tastefully decorated for the occasion. The party was accompanied by Mr A. Cameron!, chairman of the Central Co-ordinating Committee. There was a large attendance, including members of the local patriotic committee. The Queen and party were welcomed by His Worship the Mayor (Mr W. H. James, who is also cliait'man of the local patriotic committee) Mr D. H. Oockburn (chairman of the Lake County Zone Committee), Mrs G. Bowler (president, WDF.U-) and Mrs W. H. James (president, Ladies' Patriotic Committee). A bouquet of flowers was presented to Mis® Pratt by little Miss Alison Shaw.

In a short address, Mr Cameron stressed the need for a rehabilitation fund to help the men. who returned from the war, and broke clown subsequently eo that they needed assistance. All the money collected for the Queen Carnival would be invested and used for the rehabilitation of Otago soldiers., sailors and airmen, who, they hoped, would return from the present war. The Government would have no jurisdiction on* control over the funds-, /which would be administered by a committee representative of the province, and advisory committees would be set up in each outlying district. Much appreciated songs were contributed by Mesdames R. H. Baird and A. V. Miller and Miss Mary Pratt bnd Miss Sligo, the accompanist' being Miss McLauchlan and Mr Bringans. The members of the W.D.F.U. are to be congratulated on the excellent arrangements made for the reception of the Queen and her party. . , i ■
