At the meeting pf the W.D.F.U. held on Saturday it was decided that a street sale of cakes and mystery parcel® should be held on Saturday next, proceeds' to be used in purchasing wool for comforts' for men. on the minesweepers. Unfortunately, the committee has been informed that it is not permissible to hold functions for raising funds for any specific purpose such as this. All monies are put into a central fund which distributes it according to the needs of the various branches of the fighting forces. The street effort, therefore has been cancell led in the meantime.

The traffic regulations recently issued to local authorities provide, amongst other things, a maximum speed of 35 miles per hour for any motor vehicle which is drawing a trailer and this is subject to the lower speed limit fixed by the heavy motor vehicle regulations. The sounding of horns at night between 11 pun. and 7 aim. in populated areas is also forbidden except in an unexpected traffic emergency. The Christchurch Welcome Service Club, an institution which makes provision for the comforts and entertainment of soldiers on leave from camp 'is appealing through local bodies. for funds towards its support. The appeal came before the borough and county fcouncils .on Thursday and the ‘Mail’ was asked to commend the request lo local and district people. Contribution® may be sent to this office or direct to the club. It is a worthy object.
