Our readers- are reminded that the annual Citizens’ Ball will be held in the Atheneum Hall on Friday evening next. The music will be supplied by McNamara’s Dance Band, while the supper arrangements are in the hands lof a ladies’ committee. As the whole of the net proceeds- of the ball will be donated to funds, it is anticipated that there will be a large attendance. The usual fortnightly social- in connexion with St. Patrick’s Church was held in the schoolroom on Friday evening and pwas largely attended. The euchre prizes were won by Mrs McClintock and Mr J. F. Mcßntyre while Mrs G. S’coles and Mr W. A* Warring .qualified bfor the tion prizes. Supper was provided by the ladies-, after which dancing was indulged .in the music being supplied by Miss M. Inder and Mr E. Henderson. The big attraction at Arrowtown Talkies on Saturday evening next will be the New Universal 1940 picture. “2 Bright Boys ” starring Jackie Cooper and Freddie Bartholomew, sup'ported by Alan Dinehart and Melville Cooper. There will also be a good supporting program. The rainfall for the month of August. as recorded by Mr A. E. Eirridge, Arrowtown. was as follows: —Bain fall for the month. 157 points: days on which rain fell. 3; maximum fall. 80 points on. 26th. The rainfall for August last year was 131 points for 7 days. Mr E. Adamson of the Otago Acclimatisation Society -.has now completed for the season the work of strip-rung fish in Hayes creek. His tally for the season is 2,7f<1,000 eggs.
