OBITUARY.
The death took place in Oamaru on Wednesday last of Mrs- Isabella McDowall, relict of the late Captain James McDowall, who spent _ many years in Queenstown, while in the employ of the Lake Wakatipu Steamers. The late Mrs McDowall had reached the ripe -age of 88 years and was a native of Waikouaiti. Deceased claimed to be the first white female child horn in this district. Deceased was brought up in the Clutha district, where she married. Her husband -and family came to this district early in 1891 and they lived here for many years. The late Capt McDowall died in Queenstown in 1901. Of a family of 13 six survive. These are Messrs George McDowall (Port Chalmers), Edward McDowall (Gore), Robert. McDowall (Queenstown), Alex. McDowall (Otahuhu, N. 1.), Mrs T. Ure (Oamaru), i and Mi>s J. N. Thompson (Winton). ’ There are also a large number of grandchildren. Deceased was of _ a lovable disposition and held in high esteem by all who knew heir. The body was brought to Queenstown on Saturday and interred in the local cemeteiy. A short service; was held in the Church of England, and the obsequies at the graveside were performed by the Rev. J. C. Fussed.
