On Monday evening, a social was held in the Mackenzie Hall to bid farewell to Captain Sampson, who has been in charge of the local Salvation. Army Corps for some months, and who has been trar.sl’erred on. promotion to the Corps at Herbert. His Worship the Mayor (Mr W. H. Overton), was in the chair, and other speakers were Mr W. Hales, the Rev. D. K. {Boyd, and Mr H. Sew Hoy, the Ecv. J. N. Goodman being detained till a late hour at a vestry meeting. Mr Graven, treasurer of the Palmerston North corps, also spoke. A most enjoyable programme of musical and vocal items was given by the following: Miss Jean Moffat, Miss Esther Percy, Miss Rene Hales, and Mr G. Fcrgusson (Greymouth). After a dainty supper had been served, the evening closed with, the Benediction.
