Stronach, Morris and Co., Ltd., report for week ending Thursday, 6th January, 1938: Eat Cattle—There was a medium entry of fat cattle forward for yesterday's market, 2-10 being penned. With the exception of one or two trucks of extra prime bullocks, the yarding was made up of medium weight cattle with a fair proportion of cows and heifers. The opening market for all prime quality cattle was from par to a shade lirmer on the previous double market rates, but over the concluding races, prices were a shade easier. Extra prime heavy bullocks to £2l 2s (id. Store Pigs.—There was a very small entry of store pigs and these met with wery keen competition. Oats.—Owing to the holidays there has been no business passing. The nominal value for A grade gartons is 2s lOd on trucks, country sidings. Wheat—Millers will take any lines suitable at full schedule rates. Fowl wheat meets with good inquiry at up to Gs ex store, Dunedin.

Chaff—Sufficient is coming forward to meet the local inquiry and prime bright oaten sheaf is bringing up to £5 ss, ex store., Dunedin. Owing to the unsettled conditions of the market overseas and there being practically .no orders in hand, there was poor competition and prices generally showed a drop on last sale’s rates. Summer sorts were easier by Id to 2d per lb and outgoing and winter sorts by -Id to 6d per lb on last sale's prices.
