CITIZENS’ BALL.
A BRILLIANT SUCCESS. The Citiezns’ Ball, held in the Atheueum Hall, Arrowtown on Friday evening last, was the most successful and enjoyable social function held in Arrowtown for some time past. There was a very large attendance, all parts of the district being represented!, while visitors were present from Milton, Invercargill, Cromwell, Queenstown, Cardrona, and Haast Pass. The hall and stage were most tastefully decorated and those responsible are to be congratulated on tbeir work. The supper arrangements, which were carried out by a ladies’ committee and a band of willing workers, left nothing to be desired. First-class 1 music, supplied by the Rhythmic Revellers’ Dance Band, Cromwell, and a perfect dancing floor contributed towards the success oil the ball. The Grand March, in which about SO couples took part, was led off by the Mayor and Mayoress (Mr and Mrs W. H. James), followed by councilcillors and their wives. The duties' of M.C’s were carried out by Messrs P. Mcßride and W. Nairn. The prizes for a ‘“lucky spot’’ waltz were won by Mrs T. Lonsdale (Cromwell) and Mr John Robertson, and for the Monte Carlo by Miss Jean Henderson and Mr J. Snell. Prior to the supper adjournment the Mayor thanked those present for their patronage, the ladies who had assested with the supper arrangements. and all others who had helped to make the ball the success it was. Dancing was kept going with spirit until an early hour.
