A Jopp Cup match was played on the Arrowtown ground on Thursday last between a combined team from the Queenstown Public and Convent schools and a team from the two Arrowtown schools and Lower Shot-over. The Queenstown boys were too good for their opponents, and won by 44 points to nil. Mr A. B. Hamilton was the referee. Except for a final game, Queenstown, Convent v. Queenstown Public, which will be .played on Wednesday, Stli September, the school football season is over. This game should provide a good exhibition of fast open play. The Queenstown school fifteen (combined Convent and Public school) have played home and home matches with Arrowtown combined, and have been successful in both games. These games are important ones especially from the point of view of experience in fifteen aside play. The game, Wakatipu v Northern, showed that the district forwards and the Northern backs were given plenty ball. Wakatipu’s strength lay in its backs. Several good movements were made on either side, The Northern half, especially, was outstanding. The team was in charge of Father Ardagh, who was well pleased with his team’s performance against a heavier and more experienced side. The thanks of those interested in school football are due to Mr James (Arrowtown), and Mr Overton and Rev. Father Ardagh (Queenstown) for conveying the boys to and from Athol. In the local seven-a-side compete tion, Queenstown Convent are in an unassailable position and the result of the final game will not affect the Cup.
