PROGRESSIVE BRIDGE EVENING.

: PLUNKET SOCIETY. EFFORT. J j Mrs Irwin Hunter, chairwoman of 3 the local branch of the Plunket So* ; ciety, who is always eager to assist 3 in this worthy cause, placed her ■ residence at the disposal of the oom- ; mittee on Wednesday last, for a ■ progressive bridge evening. Thisde- . lightful home proved admirably suited I for the occasion. Spring flowers, ■ tastefully distributed throughout the rooms, added much to an already pleasing interior. The evening proved a most Interesting and enjoyable one and the effort was a means of adding appreciably to the funds of the branch. Eleven tables participated in the progressive card game and after two hours’ play the cards were handed in. Prizes kindly donated by Mrs Hunter were won by Dr. W. A. Anderson and Mrs Geo, Chalmers, and Mrs E. J. Mclntyre and Mr X. Macdonald received the consolations. A cake-guessing competition also helped in no small way towards the financial result of the evening. The winner of tills was Mr D. H. Cockburn and the second prize went to Mrs Herbert. The winner generously handed the prize back to the committee and it was dutch-auc-tioned, the successful bidder being Dr. Anderson. Following on the cards, a bountiful supper was provided by the Plunket committee. Before the guests dispersed, Mr W. H. Overton thanked Mrs Hunter for the splendid aid she had given the Plunket movement in placing her' home at the disposal of the committee and he coupled her sister, Mrs Jago, in the r vote- of thanks.
