WAKATIPU DISTRICT POWER BOARD.

QUEENSTOWN TO BE EXCLUDED.

A meeting- of the Wakatipu Power Board was held In the Council Chambers on Friday last. There were present: Mr W. H. James (chairman), Messrs F. J. Gavin, W. H. Overton, J. Reid, W. P. Saunders and J. W. Miller (secretary). The secretary of Otago Central Electric Power Board, Alexandra, wrote stating that in the recent canvass of the Wakatipu Power Board district, excluding Queenstown, the revenue figure obtained was £1761, which represents 10 per cent, of the estimated capital cost of £17,650. The Otago Board considered that this was a satisfactory figure, and with the co-operation of the Wakatipu Board, it was willing to proceed further in the matter of power supply for the district. The secretary of the Otago Central Beard enclosed a letter from the Public Works Department, Wellington, which gave two alternatives to give effect to the i wishes of the two Boards in the matter of bringing the Lake Wakatipu Power District under the supply from the Otago Central Board. Following on the discussion at the recent conference held in Cromwell, “it would appear,” states the letter, “that the second alternative wou'.d be the course to adopt, in which case you would take steps under section 6 of the Electric Power Board’s Act, 1935, to have that part of your district over which the canvass was taken, added to the supply area of this Board.’ It was resolved, on the motion of Messrs W. H. 'Overton and F. J. Gavin—That the Lake Wakatipu Power Board take steps under section 6 of the Electric Power Beards Act, 1925, to have all that portion of the Board’s district excluding the Borough of Queenstown, transferred to the Central Otago Electric Power Board district, and that the Central Otago Power Board be asked to take the necessary steps and advice of any further procedure necessary for this Board to take. Several accounts were presented for payment amounting to over £2O, and it was decided to pass these subject to arrangements being made with the bank.
