There was a very short sitting of the Warden’s Court this morning before H. J. Dixon, Esq., warden. Mr W. Rough weather conditions prevailed at the last week-end. Snow conimenc ed to fall on Friday, following a stormy night. Late in the evening the whole countryside was enveloped in snow. In Queenstown there was a depth of about 4in and in the country the depth varied from 6,in to 18in. The deposit was greater on the higher altitudes. A thaw set in on Saturday and most of the snow has cleared off the lower levels.

A euchre tournament and dance, in aid of school funds, was held in the Lower Shotover Public Hall on Thursday evening last. There was a good attendance. The prizes were won by Mrs J. Allan and Mr J. Fraser, the consolation prizes being awarded to Mr J. Grant (playing as a lady) and Mr A. Jansen. After supper, dancing was indulged in to music supplied by Misis M. Bagrie and Miss J. Hansen (piano) and Mr A. Panic (violin). Aeoordcon extras were played by Messrs G. Turner, H. Jolly and H. Grant. Mr Jas* McLean was M.O.

On Friday last Mr L. Leo, chairman of the Lake County Council, Inspector Powell and Cr. W. Gordon, member for Kingston riding, went to Invercargill and met the Southland County Council in regard to the muchvexed Parawa-Nokomai road deviation. It is pleasing to state thaty satisfactory arrangements were made, as a result of the negotiations!, to have the work carried out.

The Prime Minister (Rt. Hon. M. J. Savage) has stated that the session would probably open during the first week iu September. He intends to go to Auckland to meet the Minister for Finance and Marketing (Hon. W. Nash) and, after that, he will return and go south, visiting the main centres, but before doing so he will definitely fix the date for the opening of the session.

“Begg’s,”’ Dunedin, are again taking time .by the forelock in anticipating the demands of listeners-in for a clear reception of the Springbok matches. They claim for Pliilco radio features that stamp it as the most efficient of all sets on the market. Beggs’ are offering these machines on very easy terms and they have a wonderful range of models to choose from. Demonstrations will bo given in any home on request. The fifth of a series of euchre tournaments under the auspices of the Queenstown Municipal Brass, Band was held in the Town Hall last Tuesday evening. There was a fair attendance of patrons and a verypleasant evening was spent. The following were the prize-winners: Mrs R. Robins (lady’s 1 ) and Mr M. Seekup (gent’s). Mrs Seekup and Mr A. Landrebe won the consolation. The prizes were kindly donated by the firm of Hales and Lobh, and Mr L. Yelnt. After the .cards supper was handed around and dancing indulged in. The music was supplied by the Band, and Mrs R. Lloyd, Miss A. MciSorlley, Mr Geo. Mitchell (piano), and Mr Rat NMoSoriley (violin). The caterers were Meisdames A. R. Inder, I. Hunter, R. Duncombe, J.
