Country—A. Burrows; Grant, N. Campbell H. Grant; 8.. Finley J. McLean, J. Eeid; R. Hansen, A. Robins, H. Buchanan, G. Brown, Lewis, I. Brown, McLaughlin, Toll. Queenstown met Country at Prankton on Saturday last. The ground was in .good order, though a trifle heavy in places. Both teams were below their usual strength. Queenstown won the toss and played with the wind behind them, and right fro’ra the start began a series of attacks that had the Eed line in danger through the whole of the spell. But for mishandling, when in try-scoring positions, Queenstown would have had a much bigger total at halftime. The first score came from a set .scrum in Country 25, Yellow heeling to allow McCorkindale to set his line in motion. Lynch, Aldous and Inglis handled in turn for the lastnamed to dash over near the posts for a good try. McCorkindale goaled. Queenstown 5, Country 0. Fast following up of high kicks found the Eed fullback caught in possession more than once and Country had a busy time keeping Yellows out. Following a forcedown, the Eed dropout was fielded by Aldous, Who potted a beau Tut goat. Queenstown 9, Country nil. Country had several turns on attack before the end of the spelt but their backs could not gain much ground. Country started off the Isecond half with more dash and bad Queenstown pressed on several occasions, Finley making a couple of good runs but he was Avell stopped each time. Gray, Murdoch and K. Lynch were very prominent in the Queenstown pack and their‘bustling tactics gained valuable ground. Mid-way through the second spell Queenstown gained possession from a set scrum, the ball travelling through the backs to let Inglis' cross for his second try. E. Anderson missed the goal kick. Queenstown 12, Country 0. Lewis made a great attempt to kick a goal from well out, the ball falling short for E, Anderson to gather and run round on the open side and start a passing movement which nearly ended in success. Play was of an even nature for the remainder of the game, several Eed forward movements being led by McLaughlin and Buchanan, but good defensive work kept them out. When full time sounded Beds were pressing Queenstown on the goal line. Mr E. Robertson was the referee.

The B grade match between Queenstown and Country ended in a win for Queenstown by lopts to 6.

NOTES. The points in the B grade matches are as follows:—,Queenstown: Played

5, won 4, cup pts., 8; Arrow: played 4, won 3, cup points, 6; Country: played 5, lost 5, cup points nil

Considering the number of changes in both sides, it was quite a good game, although, at all stages, Queenstown had the edge on their apponents.

J. Murdoch's hooking, F. Gray’s splendid line-out work and R. Anderson’s good play at full-back were big factors in Queenstown’s success. For the losers, McLaughlin and Brown were towers of strength in the pack and Reid and Finley were 'he best of the backs.

The Springboks began their New Zealand tour last Saturday at Auckland and registered their first win against Auckland. The points were 19 to 5 in their favour. The visitors scored five tries, two converted, to one converted try. The came was closely contested throughout. In Dunedin Southern defeated Kaikorai by 13 pts to nil, and won the competition for the second time in succession.

Considerable interest attaches to the Eanfurly Shield game next Saturday at Dunedin between Southland and Otago. The local games will be suspended next Saturdayon on account of the big match in Dunedin.
