OBITUARY.

THOMAS M. BROPHY. ) I The death occurred at bis residence, ; -Shotover St.. Queenstown, on Friday : of Mr Thomas Michael Brophy, ref tired postal official, late of Inver--5 cargill. Some four or five years ago ; deceased had a break down in health and he and his wife and family came to Queenstown to live, hop- ! ing that the change would bring about bis recovery. Despite, however, our salubrious climate, and the skilled attention he received Irom our local medico, who is a specialist in the complaint from which he sulleivd Mr Brophy passed away peacefully after a protracted illness borne with the greatest fortitude. Mr Brophy, who was in his fiftieth year, was a son of the late Michael Brophy of Ashburton, and he was ! born there. He entered the postal service when a young man and was for some years stationed at Ash- • burton. Oamaru and Timaru. Prior to resigning from the service and • coming to Queenstown, he had been r supervisor of the Postal branch at 1 the Invercargill office. Deceased was of a quiet disposition, and he’ lived in comparative retirement in the interests of his health; lienee. it was only among his immediate friends that his true worth was realised.. He was a man of lofty ideals and resolute purpose. and in his character were the ; deep tints of love, loyalty and zeal . for his religion. Mr Brophy is survived by his wife and two young children, who will have the deep sympathy of the community in their bereavement. The funeral took place on Sunday. wlkmi the remains were interred in the Queenstown cemetery, the Rev. Father Ardagh official, ng. Many floral tributes were laid upon the grave.
