The weather was fine and there was a good attendance of the public. The teams were evenly matched up till within ten minutes of the conclusion of the game, when Queenstown backs combined better and brought off two good tries to put the side in a secure winning position. The Country toi ■ wards were heavier than Queenstown and showed their weig.it in the scrums. The backs, thour n well fed by Davis, rarely ever gained any advantage, through faulty handling. The local backs were little better, except in the latter part ol the game. However, their fielding and kicking were superior to Country. The teams were:

Queenstown. —Backs: G. F. Murchison, A. Inglis, McGarvie, J. Boyle, G. Lynch, W. Robins; forwards: More, F. Lynch, T. Sanders, A. Townsend. A. Wallace, M. Macrae, R. Perks, G. Thompson. Country:—Backs: M. McLean, C. Downey, T. Murdoch, G. Bell, F. Summers, J. Davis, D. J. Jardine; forwards: J. Talbot, A. McDonald, S. Stevenson, P. Lewis, G. Brown, McLaughlin, Buchanan, G. Jardine. Queenstown lost the toss and had to play with the sun in their eyes, which put the side at a disadvantage. After ten minutes’ play Country attacked for some minutes, but Queenstown relieved with a free kick. Play returned to Queenstown’s 25, and the side had eventually to force. In subsequent play Inglis was prominent and on two occasions used his speed to good effect. After an exchange of kicks Talbot scaled along the western line with only the full back to pass, but Murchison made no mistake. Queenstown then attacked and Country was forced. Country forwards followed up the 25 kick and a series of scrums took place near Queenstown’s line. One of the latter’s players was caught off-side and the position was good enough lor Lewis to put the ball over the bar. Country <5, Queenstown nil. Play moved up and down swiftly and Murduch was then seen to come through the - opposing backs with the ball at toe right to the line, but Inglis prevented a score. The game was confined largely to the forwards in the latter part ol the first spell. In the second spell T. Sanders was sent back to the three-quarter line (on the wing) and McCorkindalo replaced him in the forwards. Yellows broke through to Reds’ 25.shortly alter play resumed, but Reds transferred to the Yellows’ territory, where several scrums took place near the line. Yellows then opened up the play and several attempts at passing were smothered by the Red forwards, j Red backs were receiving a good deal of ball from the scrums, but it seldom got past Summers, who, at times, should have sent it back to the three-quarter line. Following uninteresting play. Yellows started an attacking movement, and from a scrum at the 25 line Robins fed Inglis, who cut through the opposition and touched down behind the goal posts. Robins missed an easy kick. The score was then 3 all. Yellows returned to the attack and Wallace broke away to the line, but a scrum was ordered. Reds got out of a difficult position and play was centered for some minutes. Yellows pressed again and the backs wtitplaying with better combination. Inglis took a pass and ran for the line, i but was collared. He passed to

Townsend in time lor the luttei to push his way across. Boyle missed the goal kick. Queenstown 6, Country •3. Making every attempt to open up play, Yellows were now proving their superiority. From a lair position McSoriley missed a penalty goal. Inglis later smartly tielded the ball

from a Red forward side kick and again ran over to register a fine try which was not converted. Queenstown 9. Country 3. Country then went on attack and endeavoured to even up the score. Lewis missed a chance of adding 3 to the Reds’ score with a penalty kick. The game ended with no further score. Mr L. Hanrahan was the referee. JUNIOR MATCH. In the junior match between Queenstown and Country the former won by 27pts to 12. Both teams played short of then- full complement, Country having to put two or three schoolboys on the field. McCurdy was the star player on the Queenstown tide. Mr E. Robertson was the referee. ARROW v. GLENORCHY. Arrow —Backs: W.Murphy; T.Flynn, J. Henderson, A. Dakers; C. Murphy, B. Richardson; J.
