LOCAL AND GENERAL.

At the monthly meeting of the Otago Land Board, held in Dunedin on Wednesday last, the transfer of section 5, block ill, Kawarau, 21a 33r 28p, and section 22, block 111, Hawaiian, 72a or 12p, from Thomas Kinross to Walter A. Kinross and the said Thomas Kinross was approved. A pumping plant has been installed at the old Criterion quartz mine, and the pumping of water out of a shaft, which was sunk in the early sixties, is being proceeded with. Good progress is being made. A record yield of barley is reported from Mrs A. Brown’s “Islay Farm,” Lower Shotover, where from a live and a-half acre paddock. Mr C. Hausen's mill threshed out 108 bushels to the acre. Mr Robert Adamson, curator for the Otago Acclimatisation Society, arrived in Arrowtown on Tuesday evening last, and he is now engaged in making preparations for stripping lish in Lake Hayes. A special meeting of the Arrow Borough Council was held on Monday evening, Bth ins-t., to consider the best method of lighting the new hall. There were present: His Worship the Mayor (Mr W. Milne), Crs. W. H. James, J. Jenkins, G. H. Hausen, Jas. S'haw, and J. W. Reed. After discussion, it was decided on the motion of Cr. Reed, seconded by Cr. Shaw—That the hall be lighted by electricity, generated by water from the Borough main. Cr. James voted against the motion, as he considered that the method proposed would not be satisfactory. The Mayor and Cr. Shaw were appointed to make arrangements with Mr H. Mclntyre re installing the light.
