VALEDICTORY SOCIAL AT GIBBSTON.

MISS BESSIE KINROSS ENTERTAINED. There was a large attendance at the Gibbs ton schoolhouse on Friday evening, Bth inst., the occasion being a farewell social tendered by the residents of Gibbston to Miss Bessie Kinross in view of her approaching marriage and departnrejxoni the district. Miss Kinross’ popularity was clearly evidenced by the large number who attended, those present including friends from Queenstown, Arthurs Point, Arrowtown and Crown Terrace. Apologies for absence wore received from the Rev. W. W. Powell and Mi- W. H. Thompson. The evening was devoted to * dancing. After supper had been served, Mr Joseph Miller, on behalf of the Gibbston people, asked Miss Kinross’ acceptance of a casserole with silver stand and a case of fish knives and forks, Mr Miller said that Miss Kinross had worthily upheld the high standard set by her parents. She had always been ready and willing to assist at all social functions, and had acted as organist at the church services for inany years. In humorous vein Mr Milieu,- spoke of Miss Kinross’ many excellent qualifications, which included house-keeping, needle-work, and gardening, and he concluded by wishing her every happiness and prosperity in the future. On being called on to speak Mr John Cock burn (Arthurs Point) said he could only endorse what Mr Miller had said, remarking that the (atper had done Miss Kinross justice, but only justice. “For she’s a jolly good fellow,” was heartily sung, after which Miss Kinross suitably returned thanks. During the evening songs were contributed by Mesdames A. V. Miller, D. Beaton, and A. W. Scott, and recitations were given by Mrs F. Chard and Mr Joseph Kirby. The dance music was supplied by Mesdames A. V. Miller and J. It. Euisoll, Misses Miller and Kinross, and Messrs J. Scurr and J. E. Eusoll. Mr Hay Scott acted as M.C.
