ARROW RIVER IRRIGATION SCHEME.

MEETING OF FARMERS.

A largely attended and representative meeting of farmers who come under the Arrow irrigation scheme was held in the Council Chambers, Arrowtown, on Saturday afternoon. ji. Paterson, the convener <jf the meeting, presided. A copy of a letter which Mr Bodkin, M.P., had sent to all who had signed for watei, was read, Mr Bodkin advised that an irrigation board be formed, and stated that he would visit the district shortly, when he into the details" of the scheme with the members. Mr Paterson said that it was for the meeting to decide whether, a separate board should bo formed or whether they should link up with the A. and P. Society or the local branch of the Farmers Union. Personally, he was m favour oi a separate board. 51r William field was in favour of a separate board, as lie considered many members of the other bodies had "no interest in the irrigation scheme. Mr J. E. O’Connell favoured linking up with the A. and P. Society, which was a well-established organisation. After further discussion, Mr Eustace Saunders proposed. Mi' T. Fitzgibbon

seconded —That a separate board, to ;be known; as ‘‘The Arrow town. Irrigation League,” be formed. —Carried unanimously. The following were appointed a committee: —Messrs R. M. Paterson, William Reid, W. P. Saunders, John Grant, J. P. Brown, J. Butel, and R. H. Baird.

Mr Paterson was unanimously elected chairman, and Mr J. H. Douglas, secretary. It was decided that the membership fee be 2s 6d per annum. A most enthusiastic meeting closed ‘with a voto of thanks lo the chair.

A meeting of the committee was held afterwards, when preliminary details were arranged.
