PERSONAL NOTES.

Bishop Whyte of Dunedin paid a short visit to Queenstown last week.

Mr H. Tornkies is visiting Invercargill

Mr J. Hales was a passenger by last evening’s steamer.

The Rev. Father Joyce_ is at present conducting a week’s mission at St. Joseph’s church.

Miss Gladys Haines and Miss Eva Edwards, of Dunedin, are holidaying in Queenstown.

Miss Mackenzie returned to “Ardmore,” Walter Peak station, last evening after a stay in ‘Wellington of some months.

Miss Connie Haines, of Dunedin ,is spending her annual vacation in (Queenstown as the guest of Miss Molly Angelo.

Mrs Boulton of Wellington is the guest of her daughter, Mrs G. A Herbert, Stanley St.

Mi’ J. McMullan, senr., Arthur’s Pt, went last week to Christchurch, wthere he is the guest of his brother, Mr John McMullan.

Miss Pearce, Plunket nurse, arrived here last evening on her first visit to this end of the recently-created Plunket district. Miss Pearce is the guest of Mrs W. Thomson of Tutuila. To-day she has gone to the Head of the Lake and to-morrow she will visit Arrowtown. On Thursday she may be interviewed in the Town Hall building, Queenstown.

Messrs G. McEwau, Stockton, T. Henson, Birmingham. T. Liddle, West Hartlepool, R. Ellison, London, J. Juatham, Bristol, and J. MacFarlane, Hull, English delegates lor the Co-operative Wholesale Society of England, paid a visit to Queenstown last week. They were guests at the White Star Hotel.

The Garston schoolhouse was recently the scene of a large function when some 70 people gathered together to offer congratulations to Mr and Mrs A. Rennie Porteous on the occasion of their recent marriage. During the evening songs were- rendered by Mr Henry Soper and Mr W. Bruce. Mr H. McCaughan spoke eloquently on behalf of Garston residents as to the attributes of the young couple, and was pleased to welcome them as resif dents of the district. Mr John Gordon then made a presentation from the residents to which Mr Porteous suitably responded. Dancing wfc then indulged in until midnight, the music for which was supplied by Mr Henry Soper, Mr Jack Soper, Mr Ernest Soper and Mr Sutherland of Athol. A delicious supper was provided by the. bride and bridegroom, after which the evening was brought to a close with the singing of “For They are Jolly Good Fellows” tmd ‘“Auld Eangißyne.
