Later lie was headmaster of the Heddon Bush school, subsequently doing considerable relieving work for the Southland Education Board. It was with his ready pen anil ids vivid memory that he gained prominence. It must be said that his contributions to the papers from time to time on the early history of the Goldfields, ana even that of Southland, did much to place on record the events of the good old stirring days. He certainly possessed more than average literary ability and his articles found much favour with old and young. He was a generous old chap, and every inch, a gentleman. His wife predeceased him a few years back. Notwithstanding his advanced years his memory remained good to the last, and lus reminiscences were always interesting and delightful to listen to.
