APACHE'S REVENGE

DUEL INSTEAD OF MURDER FIVE YEARS AFTER. PARIS, October 22. A singular story of Apache treachery and vengeance ended at dawn yesterday in the Place de la Trinity in a revolver duel between two men, who, having spent the night in drinking together and exchanging memories, suddenly decided to settle an old difference. The story began live years ago, when Lucien Pelous, known as “ Lulu du Faubourg,” having been sentenced to a term of imp.isomnent, decided to reveal to the police certain episodes in which lie had been concerned with one Pierrot, another denizen of the Faubourg Montmartre. The result ol Jus confidence was that Pierrot was arrested and sentenced to live years’ imprisonment.

Pierrot was released three days ago, and, having bought/ a pair o* revolvers, returned to his old haunts, and sought out Pelous, •with whom he sat in various cafes drinking far into the night. Ac about d a.m. Pierrot invited his companion to aeeompany him in a taxicab to the house of a mutual friend, where ho said a breakfast awaited I hem. During the journey Pierrot suddenly stopped the laxieab drivel , and. under menace of a revolver, ordered him to drive off. At the same lime he informed Pelous that the time had come to account for one memory ol which they had not so far spoken. “ i could kill you,” lie said, ” but I prefer to make it an honorable dud. Here is a revolver like my own. .March twenty paces, and then fur . and lire. The ins!ructions were duly obeyed, and after they had exchanged ten shots both men were picked up wounded, though not gravely. Now each rcluscs to lodge a complaint against the other, holding that their “ duel a I’Ameriiaine” has wiped out a score of live vears’ standing.
