Dunedin, this day, GALES IN THE NORTH. SERIOUS FLOODS IN THE SOUTH ISLAND. Gales are reported in the North Island and floods on the West Coast of South Island. A hurricane was experienced in Hawkes Bay and damage of a minor kind is stated to have occurred at Donne virke. On the West Coast the rivers are in flood. Westport is isolated, all telegraph lines being down. In the Butler Gorge considerable damage is also reported as the result of the overflowing of the MangOhua river. ATTEMPTED ASSASSINATION OF MUSSOLINI, ITALIAN PRIME MINISTER. At Bolongia a youth, attempted to assassinate Mussolini by .shooting at him with a revolver. The crowd killed‘his assailant, whose body has not been, identified. The Italian Prime Minister had a narrow escape. Fourteen knife wounds were- found in the boiy of the assailant.
