MBS AGNES SMITH OAEDINEH. We have to record the death on Sunday last of an old and much respected resident of this to win In thfei person of Miss Agnes Smith! Gardiner, proprietress of Eossford House:. Deceased. had not enjoyed good health for years, but being possessed . of wonderful spirit and a strong heart', and aided by efficient help, /die carried/ on with considerable spccess the boarding house business left her on the decease of her mother 16 years ago. About a week ago the fate Miss Gardiner showed unmistakeablc signs of weakening and her state of health caused much anxiety amongst her relatives and friends. Little hope was given for her recovery and she eventually succumbed to heart failure. Dei--' ceased lady was a native of .Wedderburn, Mt. Kromg, Victoria, and was the third daughter of the late James and Margaret Gardiner, She arrived in Queenstown with her parents in .February 1869 and has lived here ever since. The late Miss Gardiner was of a quiet unassuming nature. Of a kindly disposition, she was kno win to dispense charity with a free hand and those who knew her .best could not but respect and love her. Much sympathy in their bereavement is extended by townspeople to the .relatives, viz., Mrs H. Mackenzie, eenr'j (a sister) and Mir J. W. Gardiner. The funeral will take place, this after-, noon. A short service will be held in deceased’s late ,home by thej Eev. Professor Dickie, after which the cortege will leave for the local ejemetery where the remainder of the Presbyterian form of service will be. carried out. •.
