Dr. A. T. McOaw, Invercargill, lias been spending a few days at Wakatipu. The Duke of York, the King’s second eldest son, was married to Lady Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon in London on Friday last. Mr and Mrs H. Mackenzie, soar.,, and Miss Mackenzie, Walter Peak Station, Lake Wakatipu, who have been on holiday in Canterbury and elsewhere, returned to Queens town on Friday evening. Mr G. Egerton, who lias occupied a position on the local postal and telegraph staff for some months past', has been transferred to Balfour, whence he took his departure yesterday*'" mo ruing. During iiis period of duty here Mr Egerton proved himself a capable and most .obliging officer, and it may be remarked that if courtesy will assist a man towards promotion Mr Egerton will always be found steadily ascending the ladder of. success in the public service. At the monthly meeting of the Southland Education Board the following teachers’ appointments were confirmed: —Athol, .assistant, Hazel Brand; Lower Shotover, temporary sole teacher, John Butel. Miss lira Homans, an Arrow,to win lady, was appointed temporary assistant at Linnsden school until 31.1.24. Captain Barnes and Lieut Ward, who have been in charge of the local Salvation Army Corps for the last four months, have received orders to he in readiness to transfer shortly. The former goes to Georgetown. and the latter to Cromwell. Both officers have done good work in the district, and become popular in the short time they have been in the district. Oa.pt Queree (Milton) and Lieut. Williams are their successors.
