BALL. A grand ball was held in the Drill Hall in the evening to commemorate the event. This proved a great success being, iu the opinion of many, the best function of its kind held in Arrowtown for some time. Between 60 and 70 couples participated in the grand march—quite a ceremonious affair, directed by the capable M.C, Bro. S. McSkimming and led by the Piov. G.M. R. W. Bro. Steans and Mrs Melville. Subsequently the gay throng was augmented somewhat so that the floor space was considerably taxed. The lodge bad made a departure from the usual custom of getting the musicians locally and the result was

extremely satisfactory, a violinist and pianist—Mr and Miss Harvey—from Invercargili being the performers. An excellent supper was provided in a large marquee erected at the back of the ball. This part of the arrangements devolved on a committee of ladies and great credit is due to them for the very thorough manner in which they carried out their duties.
