The Rere Lake Excursion.

A NEW WALK

Of all the one-day excursions which may be made by visitors to Lake Wakatipn undoubtedly that to Rere Lake, via Elfin Bay, has strong claims to pride of place. In itself the delightful walk through the bush is an inspiration for the poets, to say nothing of the indelible impression which the first view of the lake creates. But now another feature has been added which will immeasureably enhance the attractiveness of this locality. This has been brought about by means of the fine suspension bridge across the Greenstone which has just been erected by the Public Work? Department. Hitherto the walk beyond Rere Lake into the Greenstone Valley haa been restricted on account of the river; row that this insuperable barrier has been removed by the construction of the bridge mentioned, the excursionist, who has ample time at his disposal, may traverse this famous valley by the track which is the initial stage of the overland route to Te Anau aud Milford and there view some of the most glorious bush scenery and with its mountain streams and waterfalls which the world affoids. In this matter we would commend to the notice of the Tourist Department the advisability of erecting finger posts at two or three spots en route where some doubt is created as to the turnings. On the occasion of our representative's visit some considerable delay was occasioned through the want of direction as to the track to We taken, whilst numbers of tourists, to our knowledge, have returned to Queenstown from Rere Lake this season without even being aware that there was such a track.
