All cable and telegraph news north of Christchurch ceased about midday yesteiday owing to heavy rain and snow storms. Communication is not yet restored. Mr T. E. Taylor, M.P. and Mayor of Christchurch, underwent a serious operation. His condition continues critical and there are many enquiries from all parts of the Dominion.
At a meeting of the Works Committee of the Otago Harbour Board last evening Mr Belcher resigned the Chairmanship and walked out of the room. He was induced to return and his resignation wa3 torn up. His action was due to a disagreement with the secretary over a discharged employee. A northern paper reports that Sir J. G. Ward has purchased an estate in Sussex, England. John McPherson, teacher at the Otago High School, went to bed in his usual health on Sunday night and died without warning at about two in the morning, aged 61 years.
