ARREST OF RICHARD CORNISH. Richard Cornish, licensee of the. Stirling Ho "el, was arrested by Chief Detective Herbert. in Princes street, Dunedin, on Tuesday afternoon on a charge of manslaughter. Tlv.) charge sets out that " Richard Cornish, of Stirling, publican, did, on May 1,1908, unliwfully kill and slay one Catherine Elizabeth Cornish, his wife " The case wss mentioned before s sitting of the Police Court late the same afternoon.
Mr A. C. Hanlon, for accused, asked that Cornish be remanded.
On Wednesday morning accused was brought before Mr C. C. Graham, S.M., at the ordinary sitting of the Police Court. llr Macassey, for the Crown, applied for a remand* to Balclutha to the 20th inst., whi *h was granted. I\iil was fixed at accused in ,£2OO, and two sureties of £IOO each. I
Immediately after the court rose, the bail w, s. forthcoming, the bondsmen being William Cuttle (dealer) and George Hayd<n~( licensed victualler). Accused, a tall, stronglv-built man, with firm-set features, stepped into the dock without hesitation, and betrayed no outward sign that he was affected by the serousness of the charge brought against him.
