Entertainment at Skippers.

A party from Queenstown paid a visit to Skippers on Friday last, 15th inst., to give a concert in aid of the Skippers Library funds. The party left at 0 aon. in two of Mr Dagg*s traps and after a pleasant drive arrived at Skippers at 3 p.m. The performance had bean anxiously looked forward to by the Skipperites, but unfortunately the weather changed in the afternoon and at 5 o'clock in was raining heavily. Stilt, a good number of settlers turned up; indeed, it was a surprise to the concert party to see so many on such a rough night. Ke noise of the rain falling on the building, which is an iron one, caused considerable

inconvenience, as in some cases the voices of the jaTenilM were scarcely audible. Hpwever, the entire programme was gone trough and it appeared to give satisfaction toatt. Mr Dagg, who acted as chairman, earned out his duties in a businesslike manner. The first part consisted of songs and the opening overture being played by Masters J. Aldridge (piano), £. Aldridge and D. Dagg (violins), and it was a much appreciated number. The next Ham was a song, "I Love You," by Miss JeasieDagg. This young lady has a very powerful voice and she gave a very good rendering of the song. A Highland dance ••The Shauntruse" was then very nicely executed by Miss Clara Mussen. Master F. Mussen followed with a little song entitled "Mary," which he rendered very prettily for one so young. Miss Keay's number was "The last Muster," which was well received. Miss N. Mussen, a tiny lady of 6 years, danced the sword dance moat cleverly. The next was a violin solo by Master D, Dagg, wbo gave a very good interpretation of the piece essayed. This young player shows promise of becoming a very fine preformer. Mrs Mussen sang *'ln the Cathedral" in her usual finished style, ploairing old and young alike. A Scotch reel was afterwards daneed by a very light footed quartette consisting of Misses Jessie Dagg, Clara Mnssen, Nina Mussen, and Master F. Mussen. Master D. Dagg's recitation " Going down to Grampa's," which was given in a first-class manner, pleased the young folks very much. The first part of tne programme was concluded with a Highland Fling, danced very neatly by Mi— I. Dempster. The second portion of the entertainment consisted of a comedietta entitled " Red Riding Hood," the characters in which were sustained by a number of juveniles who had been trained by Mrs Mussen, and it was a very creditable performance. The title r6le of " Red p;ilWig Hood" was filled by Miss Jessie Drgg, who seemed thoroughly at home in the put. Miss Mussen, who appeared as *• Robin," also showed that she had studied her part carefully as she gave an intelligent interpretation of it. Master E. Aldridge assumed the character of the " Wolf" and he carried himself in a manner that betokened a thorough grasp of the piece. The minor parts were all well sustained by the respective performers, and altogether the performance was voted a most creditable one to the children and to their tutoress, Mrs Mussen. The hall was then cleared for dancing, in which about 16 couples took j*rt, and it was kept going merrily until 3 ajn., the music being supplied by Mrs Mussen, Miss J. Dagg, Mr Hillman, and Masters Aldridge and Dagg. At the conelusion of the concert Mr Lambie, on behalf of the Library Committee, returned to the performers for their services and expressed the hope that it would not be long before they paid another visit. The party left Skippers at 11 ajn. on Saturday after a pleasant drive arrived home at 4.30 pjn., all very much delighted with their outing and with the kindness shown them by Mean lambie, Stevenson and other*.—-Contributed.
