Lakes District Acclimatisation Society.

A special general meeting of the Lakes District Acclimatisation Society was held in the Society's office, Queenstown, on Friday, 15th May, at 3.30 p.m. The president, Dr Douglas, occupied the chair and there were also present: Mesdfa L. Lynch, T. Haines, M. J. Gavin, P. McCarthy, W. Turton and P. de la Perrelle.

The minutes of previous general meeting were duly confirmed on the motion of Messrs McCarthy and Perrelle.

Outward correspondence was read by the secretary and approved, and inward read and received, some of the most important communications being dealt with as under. Further correspondence on the matter of little owls for the destruction of small birds was received. This was principally information from the Otago Acclimatisation Boceity with regard to price, methods of importation, etc., of same. After some discussion it was resolved on the motion of Messrs Turton and. McCarthy—That 30 owls be procured by the Society through the Otago Acclimatisation Society and that the secretary communicate with the Lakes District A. and P. Society, asking that body to contribute liberally towards the above object, as the Lake County Council and boroughs of Arrow and Queenstown have intimated that they will contribute, the secretary to write officially to place the transaction upon a proper basis. Wesley Turton wrote re the advisability of communicating with the Department of Agriculture with a view to getting some moth parasite to combat the pest which exists to such an extent in the gardens of the district. After the matter had been considered the society's secretary wis instructed to write to headquarters for all information available regarding the parasite spoken of. The correspondence re applications for tomff of the Bain bow trout available for distribution in the district was read and disrussod. the secretary having stated when the pond haul had been distributed} It was subsequently resolved that a fair proportion of the Bain bow trout now remaining in the Park pond be liberated next ■ping in " Billy Creek" and the cost of doing so to be borne by the Society. Accounts as follows were passed for payment :■ —Secretary's salary for April, JOl 5s -, jmrrhaim of shags'* heads, £2\ repairs to lagoon fence, 7s 6d; L.W. Mail JBI 7s; removal of trout from pond, £2 8s; con veyance by launch of trout to various parts of the lake, £2 ; 'County Press,' 12s; petty •ash for office, 41. • A vote of thanks to the chair closed the meeting.
