PRESENTATION TO MR GEO. MACKENZIE.

On Friday evening a social was bald in the Presbyterian Church in honor of Mr Geo. Mackenzie, who with Mrs Mackenzie, as stated last issue, is about to take a trip to Great Britain and India. There was a fair attendance of church people, and the gathering was characterised by a spirit «f enthusiasm which marked the esteem •ad respect in which the guest of the evening was held. The proceedings were opened and interspersed with a few very acceptable musical items, these being two DumMre by the choir under the conductorshipofMrA. Boyne, and solos by Mrs .Mussen and Miss Jessie Dagg, and a violin :solo by Master Douglas Dagg. Recitations were also given by Miss Jessie Kennedy .-and Mr Lopdale. The chief object for ■which Mr Mackenzie's friends bad invited Ihim to nreet them, however, was to present 'him with a splendid travelling rug, of Tartac design, and an umbrella as a token •of their goodwill. The Bev James Wilson mad* the presentation in a few well chosen iwords, in which he referred to the excellent iweck which had been done in the Church iby their departing guest particularly in connection with the Sunday SchooL In conclusion the rev. gentleman wished Mr and Mrs Mackenzie Godspeed and a safe return. Mr Mackenzie replied in very appreciative and feeling terms, thanking the donors for their handsome gifts. It had always been felt by bim to be a duty and a pleasure to give all the assistance he could in church matters. After refreshments had been banded ?round and a little pleasant social conversation enjoyed the assembly dispersed.
