r&oM cum ow* cobbispondim Dnnedin this day. Albert Clarence Elliott, the bankrupt land and estate agent, Wellington, walked into Auckland police station yesterday morning and gave himself up. Elliott was a steerage passenger from Sydney by the Moana. He told an interviewer that he gave himself voluntarily to the police. If he had had any money when he reached Auckland he would have continued his journey to Wellington and given himself up there. James Horn represents the Government interest for Tuapeka bye-election.

A sensational accident occurred at Buller River yesterday. As the mail coach, which had been detained owing to the flooded state of the river, was crossing at Nine-mile Ferry the liue gave way and the punt dipped at the head, with the result that the coach and five horsee went overboard. All the hories were drowned. The driver had a narrow escape. The punt was washed down stream, but the mails were recovered and the passengers, who consisted of members of the Howard Vernon Theatrical were all saved.
