LOVE LETTER 700 YEARS OLD.

A love teller of the thirteenth century lias been discovered in a pillar of the Church of St. Peter, at MontMartre. in New York, by an architect. who was directing repairs in the old church. The billet-doux, written on a piece of sheepskin in elegant Gothic characters. was written by a Jean de Oisors to a Mile. Aelis de Lesle, and contains expressions of the strongest admiration and affection. It is a mystery how the letter came to be hidden in a fissure of the pillar, but from the context it is surmised that the young woman was so happy to receive from her lover a written justification of her conduct which seems to have been unfavourably commented upon, that she placed it in the pillar as a votive offering before the altar of the Virgin. Knlart. the French savant, has succeeded in discovering that a .Jean de (Jisors lived in the thirteenth century. during the reign of Louis IX., and took a prominent part ill the wars of that time.
