Mr. .1. I). Rockefeller, the Standard Oil King and reputed richest man in the world, is said to be in hiding on his New Jersey estate He cannot be ser\ed wit h subpoenas then —he is wanted to give evidence at the inquiry which the Government has ordered into the woiking of the trusts —but he tears that he may be kidnapped and taken into New York State, where the service would be \alid. In the meantime his estate is practicalh surrounded by armed private police, and at night searchlights are worked incessant 1> .
