Improvements to cycles still go on apace at Home. Machines are now advertised without chains, a small shaft with bevel pinions on each end transmitting the power from the cranks to the wheel—The latest, however, is a machine without pedals, diiven by a small compressed air motor on the back wheel. The whole frame is used for holding the air which is compressed by the rider rocking backwards and forwards on the machine. The rocking motion being in the direction of travel, does not interfere with the balancing in the slightest. Lord Brassy, who intends to pay a visit to New Zealand in the Sunbeam early thia year, has been invited by the Port Nicholson Yacht Club to bring his 6ve-rater, the Helen, across, so that she may compete in the regatta in Wellington, on Anniversary Day. The Helen was built for his Lordship in Melbourne from a design drawn by one of the leading yachtiug experts in Great Britain, aud that she is one of the fastest boats of ber class in the Southern Hemisphere was proved by her win in the twelvemile race for the fifty guinea challenge trophy at Melbourne the other day.
The Rev. Elward Walker, lecturer for the New Zealand Temperance Alliance, who stood for Waikato, when questioned as to how he would act in the event of a no-con-fidence motion being brought down, replied at once that he would certainly support the present Govtrnment. As he only polled 798 votes to 1799 of the successful (Oppositionist) candidate, Mr Laing, there is not much probability of the rev. gentleman as a member supportiug the Government for a considerable time—at least for Waikato.
Mrs Rhodie Noah, of this place, was taken in the night with cramping pains and the next day diarrhoea set in. She took half a bottle of blackberry cordial but got no relief. She then sent to me to see if I had anything that would help her. I sent her a bottle of Chamberlain's Colic. Cholera and Diarrhoea Remedy and the first dose relieved her. Another of our neighbours had been sick for about a week and had tried different remedies for diarrhoea but kept getting worse. I sent him the same remedy. Only four doses of it were required to cure him. He says he owes his recovery to this wonderful remedy.—Mrs Mary Sibley, Sidney, Mich. For sale by L. Hotop, chenrht.
