CRICKET MATCHES.

The cricket team to represent Southland arrived at Queenstown yesterday week in compliance with their arrangements to play the local olubs, Arrow and Queenstown. The team were met at the wharf by some of the local men, and thence escorted to Mrs M'Bride's Family Hotel, where they stayed while in Queenstown. On Friday morning following they were driven in Mr C. D. Dagg's drag over to Arrow where they com* menoed operations. The team stopped at Mr Jopp's, and were entertained there very hospitably by the Arrow " boys." The time for the match only allowed for one innings each. The cricket pitch was in very good condition. QUEENSTOWN V. SOUTHLAND. The match between a representative team from Southlaed and Queenstown, was played on the home ground last Saturday. The weather was fine and the attendance of spectators fair. During the interval between first and second innings, the team partook of refreshment 3 provided by the local club—the stall being presided over by Messrs Robertson, (2) Boyne, Daniel, Powell and Malaghan. The home club had a good team and, as may be Been by attached scores, won with seven wickets to spaie. Messrs Cross (Invercargill) and T. F, Malaghan (Queenstown) kindly acted as umpires.
