VISIT OF THE GOVERNOR.

His Excellency the Earl of Glasgow, accompanied by Lady Glasgow and family, who haVe lately been to Lakes To Auau and Manipouri, arrived at yesterday afternoon on a visit to this district for the remainder of the month—tht-ir residence here being Eichardt's Hotel. Flags were flying from t u e various hotels, the Town Hall, and an archway of flatrs was thrown across the entrance to the public wharf, on which the school children were assembled in line, and the brass band under Conductor A. Fraser were in waiting. On the Mountaineer steamer containing the party, reaching the wbarf, the Mayor (Mr F. St Omer) went on board, and his Excellency was met by the rest of the borough councillors on landing, when an address of welcome was read by the Town Clerk, Mr Geisow, to which his Excellency briefly replied. The Band having played the National Anthem the party then proceeded to Eichardt's Hotel. This morning the Governor, accompanied by the Mayor, took a stroll round town, and the afternoon was devoted by nearly all the party to a drive to Arrowtown and back. The party appear to be thoroughly enjoying themselves, and, providing the elements are propitious, some ot them purpose making the ascent of Ben Lomond tomorrow. On Monday his Excellency goes to the Head of Lake, staying at Birley's Earnslaw Hotel, Glenorchy.
