Sums' Statue Fund Concert.

The concert at the Town H ill on St. Patrick's Day in aid of the Burns' statue fund was, as previously mentioned, well attended by an appreciative audience, whoshowed by unmistakab'edemonstratioo of applause that they thoroughly enjoyed the treat provided. The 1.an.1, first of all, discoursed sweet music in the street.after which, Mr Fergus, M.H.R., opened the concert I y an address, in which he briefly referred to the object for which they had met —namely, to assist in raising funds for a monument to be erected in Dunediu to one of Britain's greatest poets-Robert Burns—whose voice would Le beard as lung as the empire lists. The concert proper opened with hat characteristic song, " fcinttn' Rovin' Rol in." given in Mr Silmond's best stvle. That fa»oritco!d Irish ballad, "Come back to Erin," was sung very effectively by Mrs Riss. who, iu response to applause, gave "Callar O'n." Mr Adams (Dimedin), who has a fine Lass voice, sang in good style, "The Gauntlet," and for an encore created much laughter by his rendering of " The Sleepy Man." Mrs Shaw (Clyde), a lady who first appeared at Queenstown some tears a-jo, sang with great feeling and expiessiou, "Sleep, my Darling." and as an encore uave " Jessie's Dream." Sh" al<o gave "Too late*' in the second |ait. Mr Houston (Arrow), created roars of l;u.hter by bis humorous style and the capital loc; 1 hits in the comic song, " Only One.' "The Cousins," a duet, was sung vciy eflectively by the Missis Black and Malaghan. Ths firstnamed lady, who is new to Queenstown audiences, possesses a cultivated voice and sings with considerate taste. She also sang " After yours "at a latpr stage. Mr Thompson (Oamarn), j;ave iu eapital style a recitation from "Tlie Lady of the Lakes" (the combat scene between Fitzjames and Roderick Dim.) An imtiumentd duet was then f:iwii by -Miss Keid (piano) ami Mr Mooie (cornet.) 'I be duet, "Sweet vision of Ciiil Hiood," was sung with taste and effect by Mrs H. lioway and Miss I'ligsworth, who were deservedly encored. The tirstnamed lady also sang "The Romany Lass" afterwards. The oidy fresh sinter* in the second part were Miss K. Aldridv'e, who sang veiy nicely the prettv sina "Apart;" MrM Coi nochie("True till Dea■h") and Mr Black ("The Shamrock.) Mr S I'ewar, who had taken a very active part in getting up the conert, then came torward and leturned thanks to those who had assisted—especially th.»e la<lies ami gentlemen who hail come from a distance. The performance was brought to a close by the ringing of' 'Aulil Lang Svne." The accompanvists were the Mioses Keid, Winy, Malaghan and Illingsworth and Mr Adains.
