A. carelessly kept coffee-pot will impart a rank flavour to the strongest infusion of the best Java. Wash the coffee-pot thoroughly every day, and twice a week boil borax and wattr in it for 15 minutes. The phrase to "give quarter" originated in an agreement between the Dutch and Spanish that the ransom of any officer or soldier should be a quarter of his pay. Thus giving of " quarter" would ensure their safety. Be that gives good advice, builds with one h:n d ; he that gives good counsel and example, builds with both ; but he that gives good admonition and bad example, builds with one hand and pulls down with the other. -Boon,
