ANOTHER SHIPTON.
Society at St. Petersburg is ju*t now much occupied with the revival of ajvery oldpjtory. A bout three years ago was a spiritualistic seance at the Officers' C'ub in that city, at which the spirit of a famous departed general was oiled up, and prophesied amongst other things that there would be a war, in 18S6, in which Russia would take the leading part. As the £host of the deceased warrior mentioned amongst thenames of officers who would greatly distinguish themao'vos in the war those of some men who did not even fi jure in the armv list, the a if air was looked upon as a joke, and nothing more was thought of it. But, by a strange coincidence amongst recent appointments to the rank of commissioned officers the very names appear which the spirit had foretold, having risen from the ranks As there is no country in the world where superstition is carried to such an extent as in Eussia, the incident baa caused quite a sensation. It would be very strange if at thb commencement of the year 1886 we should see Russia drawn iuto a war with Austria, as a rf suit of the struggle between Servia and Bulgaria.— London Life. _____ Sydney Smith on :e described a man as so dry that if you were to bore holes in him with a gimlet sawdust would come out,
