THE SAILOR'S DRKAM.
The ran had fallen from the golden ikies like tome fair hope of hea*en o'er the
deep; And night with yearning in her steadfast eyes Gazed on the lands of sleep.
And in the m : ghty calm which erer seems To bear us nearer to that angel land, That smiles thro* all our hope, in gracious gleams. Like lighthouse o'er the strand,
The moonlight of a dream upon my wul F«U with a silver radiance ; once again, Far fioin the angry winds that roar and roll Thro' all the mighty main,
The smiling ship lay tranquilly at rest Beside the beauty of my natiTe shore ; Into mine eyes the regions of the blest In sunshine stole once more.
With eager steps I trod the happy plain To one dear scene that midst the woodland ways, Long in my fancy blissfully had lain Through all the darksome days.
Once more the river, winding broad and still, Filled with a siher light the dewy dell; In its own dear old sweetness, with no will, The pure spring from the well
Leaped in delightful youth ; beneath the tree, Once more we pat in glory, she and I ; The bird* were warbling of on - love to in-? ; Of love the sunnv sky
Whispered in silence of its s lver beam?; The ringdove murmured in the boughs abore; Our hearts wore pouring in sweet sylvan at reams Through all th? land of Lore. Once more from summit of the soaring hill, That bent in beauty o'er our tranquil nest, Where mv life's restless youth wa> wont to fill Its soul wi'h N.i'ure's rert,
With bright hearts burning in onr glorious giue, We Tiewed the sweetnps* of the sinking sun, When lo ' my sleep m cruel morning rajs Dissolved —my Dream wus gone !
MAS AND TilE WEATHER. Mm's a fool' When lt'f hot, he war:t« it . onl ; Wl en it's roll, he want* it hot — Ne'er contented with his lot.
When it's drv, He for showers is heird to sigh ; Wnen —to meet his wish—it nuns Of the wet the fool complains.
