Mining Intelligence.

Notwithstanding the long protracted dry weather the mining outlook of the district is a very hopeful one. In reefing matters there are the splendid returns from the Phrenix mine and renewed activity at Skippers, aided by a new talisman—electricity, which gives promise of introducing a new era in tninin?. At the head of Lake W akatips the Invincible Co. have proved the permanence of their reef and its richness, and it mav now be said that quartz-mining is firmly established there, an I that its further development in this quarter will depend upon future prospecting efforts only. Macetown has been crippled in its mining operations by the want of water, and although the yield of cold will fall far l>elow that of former years, the output of payable stone is quite up to the average, both in qiautitv and quality. L Da*is extensive —and eipensive—operations at Stonev Creek and Yates' Terrace are. we hear, revealing unexpected riches. These are a few recent undertakings which should incite to further prospecting, but unfortunately this is far too much left to chance, in «pite of Mr Pvke's exhilarating articles in the Wi/zieM. However, who knows but that ■ome morning we may awake and find Miiler s Fiat rushed—when the Seadiff Asylum shall have suddenly collated some nirht ! Pronoe-rting in the Arrow division of the district is limited to one or two parties, where Mr W. Lenthall's recent discovery of very rioh finds has given a temporary impetus to extended searches, which, in a few instances, have led to mild hopes of payable gold being fonnd.
