BADLY SCARED.
Kasciusko Murphy is one of the most adroit liars in the Lone Star State. At a social gathering, the cheerful subject of death being under discussion, Mrs Percy Yerger asked him—
"Do you think animals fear death very much ?" 44 1 know they do. I know of a remarkable case right in point," replied Murphy. " Let us hear it."
" I was coming through the woods, when I perceived a black object on a limb, about 10 feet from the ground. I crawled up, and perceived that it was a crow. The bird did not perceive my approach until I was within 30 feet of it. The crow then caught a glance of me, and trembled all over. I brought my gun to bear on it, but at first I could not see where it was."
"It had become frightened and flown away ?" " No; its feathers had turned enow ffbite from fear."
