GREEK MEETS GREEK.
A Yankee and a Dutchman were travelling together. For provision they had only one roaated chicken which they had stolen at a farmhouse. Choosing a sheltered nook for the night, the tramps began to discuss their supper, and lamented the small size of the chicken, which obviously was not sufficient to appease the hunger of the two stalwart men. Finally the Dutchman proposed that the ehicken should be left for to-morrow's breakfast, and that he who should have the best dream should take possession of the food. The Yankee readily agreed, but during the night, when his comrade was asleep he hurriedly dispatched the prize, and well satisfied passed a dreamless night In the morning both awoke simultaneously. The Dutchman bad prepared an elaborate story about the marvellous dreams he had, and, being urged by tie Yankee, began thus : " I dreamt I waa in heaven, beautiful angels surrounded me, sweet music and fragrance filled the air. I felt supremely happy. Moreover, before me was spread a beautiful table, loaded with the choiceat delicacies in golden vessels; and what did you dream ?" " Well,' 1 replied the Yankee. " I dreamt 1 saw you in heaven gorging yourself with pigeon pie and strawberry shortcake, and so I ate up the chicken."
