Before the Gateshead County Bench, Mary Jane Smith, 15} years of age, a girl of attractive appearance, was charged with stealing money from her father, a puWi.-an, nt llenworth. Mr T. J. Foist. ..id ihe girl had pleaded guilty, and he proposed to call her as a witness Against a young man named Hibbert, who was charged with receiving the money, knowing it to have been stolen. The prosecutor said he had done hia best to keep his daughter away from Hibbert, and so did her mother. The girl promised to return home with her father, and to behave better in future, and she was ordered to be detained until the rising of the Court merely. Arthur Hibbert,minor (19), was then charged with receiving 6s on April 6, a pair of boots value 10s on 12 th September, and 2s 6d on the 17th October, knowing the same to have been stolen. Mary Jane Smith stated that the prisoner took the 6s from her pocket. She had been saving up the money for the purpose of going for a trip on Easter Monday. She went for the trip with another young man. She ordered the boots at the Co-Operative Store, and gave them to the prisoner ; he was wearing the boots | in Court. She paid for them with; money taken from her father's till. She stole the 6s also. On the 17th! October the prisoner was at her j father's house, and asked her if she had any mouey. She said she had not, but that she would get him some. She then went to the till and took half-a-crown. Sergt. Tillar said when he apprehended the girl she said she had many times taken money from her father's till and given it to Hibbert. Hibbert admitted obtaining the money and the shoes from the girl, and said he had been keeping company with her for two years. The Bench convicted Hibbert in respect to the half-crown, and fined him 20s.
