MR. A. C. THOMSON IN EXPLANATION.
To the Editor ok Lake Wakatip Mail. Sir,—l observe, in your report of proceedings at last sitting of County Council, that my views expressed n- application for assistance in forming road from Rces Flat to the Invincible Quartz] Mining Company's claim were misrepresented. What I did say was " that while of opinion that tlys Council ought to concentrate its efforts in making the main road up Recs Valley—a legitimate County work which was authorised at a previous sitting—yet, having established a precedent by giving special grants to other parties, the Invincible Company was equally entitled to assistance in developing a new line of reef, on which many other claims might eventually be taken up." Moreover, I think it is a pity that the Invincible Company did not ask the Council to call for tenders for formation of road from Head of Lake to Precipice Creek, as soon as survey of deviation (agreed to by the Waste Lands Board) could be completed ; for thereby at least a month's delay might have been saved. —Yours, ete., A. C. Thomson.
