RESIDENT MAGISTRATE'S COURT.

Queevstown, - May 15th, 1878. (Before H. A. Stratford, Esq., R.M.) John Smith was charged with throwing stones at the shop of Mr P. Butler, bootmaker, Beach-street. The accused denied being guilty of the charge, though he might have carelessly shied a stone at those he was in company with. Sergeant Morton prosecuted, and stated that complaints had been made to him about what is termed the " larrikin nuisance." P. Butler deposed that on Sunday evening a number of stones were thrown on the roof of his premises and slightly injuring it. He went out and recognised the defendant with two lads named Alfred Green and Earnest Donne. Did not see them throw any stones. J. Stokes and J. M'Dougall gave evidence — the latter stating that he saw Smith throw one stone, but could not say that he threw it at Butler's house. Constable Willis said he did not see any stone throwing as he was not in that part of the town at the time ; but complaints had been made of stone throwing in the streets. Mr Stratford said there was evidence to convict Smith ot " shying" one stone at least. The evidence was not conclusive enough, but quite sufficient to justify the action taken by the police. His Worship then administered a reprimand to defendant for his conduct, and pointed out that it should be his duty to check his younger companions if he saw them throwing stones. It was a dangerous practise, and he hoped his remarks would be remembered and acted upon. Case dismissed. Sergeant Morton, with the permission of the Bench, would withdraw the charges against Green and Donne. Leave granted, and the Court hoped this prosecution would act as a warning to stop this nuisance. Wenkheim v. R. W. Daniel. After the case had been called on the plaintiff said lie had just received a telegram, and desired to withdraw the action. Withdrawn accordingly. Mackin v. Mouatt—£4 10's—Services rendered. Verdict for amount and costs, 10s. WARDEN'S COURT. Queenstown, May IGth, 1878. (Before H. A. Stratford, Esq., Warden.) Several applications were struck out owing to non-attendance of applicants. H. Beer applied for an Agricultural lease— Few's Creek. The application was opposed by the Queenstown Corporation (Mr Finn appearing) and by Mr J. Kirkpatrick a settler (Mr Turton appearing). The Queenstown Corporation objectsons were not applicable to the site applied for. The objections of Mr Kirkpatrick referred to matters of road way and bush site &c.

The Warden after enquiries from Mr Adair, Surveyor, granted tlie applicrtion as per survey made.
